Real Men Get Facials
One of our employees recently convinced a new client to come in and get a facial. He (yes, he) was nervous about coming in for a facial and didn’t know much about them. His skin wasn’t particularly problematic but he had just visited Mexico and been in the sun for five days straight and felt that would be a good time to come in. When he was done with his facial he walked out and said, “that was so relaxing and my skin feels so great. I needed that.”
This posed the question to us of, “why is it so much more common for women to get facials than men?” Even though we have plenty of male clients that come into the spa and their company is always so great, the ratio is still way off. We decided to dive into research on the benefits of facials for men to rid them of the “girls only” stereotypes.
To start off you simply get to relax. You get 30 minutes or an hour of stress relief. Our facials include a bit of face, head, and neck massage along with massaging the product onto the face. This part is amazing for both men and women…what’s gender mean to a little relaxation?!
As far as the specific benefits for men, we found that men sometimes need facials more than women because of their course skin. Men typically have rougher and tougher skin that needs proper and extra care. Also, men are more likely to skip the sunscreen. In a recent survey only 51 percent of men reported to using sunscreen in the past 12 months. This means that a man’s face is going to have a lot more sun damage, something a facial can help with.
Another thing that makes getting facials a thing for men to do is the fact that men produce more oil. According to Doctor of Dermatology, Joshua Zeichner, men have higher levels of testosterone, which in turn explains the reason why they produce more oil. Oil can clog your pores and lead to blackheads and pimples. Our estheticians perform extractions to clear out clogged pores, as well as apply the proper products for oil control.
A smoother shave? Can’t complain about that and that’s another thing facials can do. Inflammation, irritation, and razor burn are some of the side effects of shaving that facials can take care of. The steam used in our facials opens up pores to release oil and also soften ingrown hairs.
The last awesome thing we’re thinking men might be interested in is wrinkle smoothing. Some of our Image Skincare products, along overall great care of your face will help slow down the aging process that includes wrinkles and spotting.
As you can see, there are so many different reasons why facials should be for both men and women. The benefits for both genders can differ but overall, you’re treating your skin the way it deserves to be treated. It’s important to take care of our skin, as it is so gentle. So come on in to Body Nouveaux Spa and get a facial, no matter whom you are!
